GOMEL ( BelTA) – Amid new challenges, threats and emerging tasks, it is important to preserve the country and pass on what has been built to future generations, Natalya Kochanova, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus said at a solemn meeting Continuity. Responsibility. Devotion to the Motherland in Gomel on 28 October, held to mark the 30th anniversary of the National Assembly of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The meeting was part of a nationwide series of events dedicated to the anniversary and took place in an open-dialogue format at the Palace of Rumyantsevs-Paskeviches. In a warm atmosphere, participants recalled their work in various convocations of the Council of the Republic and shared their experience.Natalya Kochanova noted that similar meetings had already been held in Grodno Oblast, Brest Oblast, and Minsk Oblast. She emphasized that 30 years is a relatively short period in the history of a country. However, it coincided with the shaping of sovereign and independent Belarus, when, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the country needed to establish the legal foundations of its statehood.

Representing a region in the Council of the Republic is a big responsibility, the speaker said. All members understand that they must work in a way that does not let down the people who delegated them to the Council.

The members of the Council of the Republic continue in their jobs. “A director, a teacher, a doctor – everyone does important work. They work on draft laws, take part in international events and engage with people,” Natalya Kochanova said.

“During the first convocation alone, 18 codes were adopted – the task was to lay a solid foundation. We are grateful to those who served in the first convocations, stood shoulder to shoulder with the president and supported his policies. And people, their comfort and well-being have always been at the heart of these policies,” she said.

“Times and life change. New challenges and threats emerge, and new tasks arise for the Council of the Republic. We always strive to ensure that the truth about our country is known,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized.

Members of the Council of the Republic are engaged in intensive work on the international front, she added. Their focus includes agreements reached at the highest level. “This is very important. It strengthens the country’s economy and social sector,” the speaker noted.

Natalya Kochanova thanked all members of the Council of the Republic for their significant contribution to the country’s social and economic development and their work on legislation. She stressed that everything possible must be done to preserve the country, save what has been built and pass it on to future generations.

Speaking to the media, she emphasized that the Council of the Republic has a proud history shaped by true professionals. “Anyone who has gone through the Council of the Republic understands the importance of working in a legislative body. Most importantly, they understand people and the processes unfolding in the country and the world, and do everything possible to ensure that the decisions made and laws adopted benefit the country and its people,” Natalya Kochanova concluded.
