Chupris opines on women’s role in Belarusian science

BelTA) – Women play a significant role in the development of Belarusian science, Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Olga Chupris said during the first forum of women scientists, “The Role of Women in Science and Education,” BelTA has learned.
“The forum has brought together those who, through their talent, painstaking work and devotion to their calling, enrich domestic and global science every day. The significant role of women in society and science is recognized at the highest level. ‘There are no heights that you, Belarusian women, cannot reach’ – these are the words of our president. Belarusian women scientists have already proven that any task is within their reach, from fundamental space research and the development of unique medicines to shaping the doctrine of a strong social policy,” Olga Chupris said.
Women run laboratories, university departments, production facilities and academic institutes. “What matters just as much is that, beyond making breakthrough discoveries and leading research teams, you also share your experience with young people and bring up a new generation of Belarusian scientists. About 40 % of researchers in our country are women. Every fifth woman researcher falls into the category of young scientists. This is a huge intellectual resource. A key feature of women’s work is the harmonious combination of rigorous logic and keen intuition, deep knowledge, cordiality, large-scale discoveries and care for loved ones. These qualities help in finding unconventional solutions to create technologies that ultimately serve people. Moreover, while actively pursuing science, you remain keepers of the home and loving daughters and mothers. All of this is the contribution of women scientists to the security and independence of our state,” the deputy head of the Belarus President Administration noted.
Today, women scientists at the forum will discuss a range of pressing issues related to artificial intelligence and space exploration, digitalization, biomedicine and biotechnology, as well as the humanitarian, socio-political and other spheres of public life. “I am confident that your research and teaching experience will resonate widely, and that your students and followers will take from you not only knowledge but also an example of service to science and to their country,” Olga Chupris concluded.
