Lukashenko signs decree on 30% reduction of President Administration staff

MINSK (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No.40 "Concerning Optimization of the Belarus President Administration" on 13 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The document is designed to improve the functioning of the Belarus President Administration, including by enhancing its structure and reducing its personnel. In accordance with the instructions from the head of state, the staff of the Belarus President Administration will be reduced by 30%.

The decree approves the new edition of the statute on the Belarus President Administration and its structure, and also regulations concerning presidential aides and the position of spokesperson.

The functions and powers of the President Administration have been updated. The new structure will help ensure further effective operation of this government agency in the context of staff reduction.

Two new positions of aides to the Belarus president have been established.

The interaction of the head of state with the legislative and judicial branches will be mediated by the aide for legislative and judicial activities to the Belarus president. The implementation of the head of state's instructions regarding the activities of banks and non-bank financial institutions will be monitored by the presidential aide for the development of the financial system.

The new regulation on the spokesperson for the Belarus president expands the functions and powers of the spokesperson, including those related to the coordination of the activities of the major public media outlets.

The decree will come into force on 1 May 2017.
