EurAsEC Court to start operating 1 January

MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – The EurAsEC Court will start operating on 1 January 2012, BelTA reports.

The EurAsEC Court will be headquartered in Minsk, 5 Kirova Street. It will be empowered to resolve economic disputes arising in connection with the formation of the Customs Union. States and bodies of the EurAsEC and also economic entities of the Customs Union will be able to apply to the EurAsEC Court.

The first bench of judges of the Court was formed at the 13th extraordinary meeting of the EurAsEC Inter-Parliamentary Assembly with the participation of a parliamentary delegation of Belarus in St. Petersburg on 23 December 2011. A solemn ceremony of appointing 10 members of the Court of the Eurasian Economic Community, two from each State, took place during the meeting. Each of the ten judges pronounced the oath pledging to work faithfully, impartially, independently, and received the mantle as symbol of the judiciary from the hands of the President of the EurAsEC IPA.

The chairman of the permanent commission for legislation and state construction of the Council of the Republic Yevgeny Smirnov and Supreme Court judge Anna Sokolovskaya are the EurAsEC Court members on behalf of Belarus.
