Sergeyenko elected Chairman of House of Representatives

MINSK ( BelTA) – Igor Sergeyenko has been elected Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation, BelTA has learned.

The chairman of the House of Representatives was elected by secret ballot during the first sitting of the first session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the eighth convocation. 109 deputies out of 109 present voted for the candidacy of Igor Sergeyenko.

Igor Sergeyenko was born in the village of Stolitsa, Sharkovshchina District, Vitebsk Oblast, in 1963. He graduated from Belarusian State University named after Vladimir Lenin in 1984, the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2006. In 1989–2010 Igor Sergeyenko held various posts at the State Security Committee of Belarus. He was appointed Head of the Mogilev Oblast Department of the State Security Committee in 2010; First Deputy Chairman for Counter-Intelligence of Belarus’ State Security Committee in 2013. In 2014–2019 he worked as First Deputy Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus. Since December 2019 Igor Sergeyenko worked as Head of the Belarus President Administration.
