Amendments in criminal law mitigating criminal responsibility for economic crimes approved

On 9 January 2018, the President of the Republic of Belarus signed the Law of the Republic of Belarus that introduced amendments in criminal law that, among other things, mitigate criminal responsibility for economic crimes, the National Legal Internet Portal of the Republic of Belarus informs.

In particular, the approved amendments provide for decriminalization of some offences in the economic sphere not related to causing real harm, reduction of the scope of application of the imprisonment as punishment for economic crimes.

The Law was officially published in Russian on the National Legal Internet Portal of the Republic of Belarus on 18 January 2019, and its main provisions enter into force in six months after its official publication.
